Andrea Price, Emotional Literacy Project Coordinator , The Bridge Mentoring Plus Scheme, Bridgend

Who are your typical clients?

Young people aged 11-25.

What do you do all day?

I work one-to-one with young people and run courses in the emotional literacy programme (in small groups or one-to-one).

What's the best bit of your job?

Difficult question - there are quite a few things. I enjoy seeing progress with young people - they go from having low confidence and self-esteem, not being sure where they’re going in life or what they’re doing, to being more confident with more direction.

Are there any downsides?

We’re a charity, so the lack of money to do what we feel we need to do is a downside.

What are your work history highlights?

Bringing young people who’ve had very difficult backgrounds, including learning difficulties, through to accreditation. Most of my working highlights have been in this job.

What is your dream job?

I’m doing it.

What do you like to do in your leisure time?

Spend time with my family, go out for meals, basically chill out.

Which modules have you done so far?

Day 1 of The Mentoring Process.

What do you hope to get out of the course?

More experience, and more knowledge to help young people.

What have you got out of the course so far?

It’s interesting meeting other people from different areas of education and listening to different views on the mentoring process.

How has the course improved your work with young people?

It’s something we do anyway, but it’s given extra meat to the bones.
