Who are your typical clients?

Young people who are disengaging from mainstream education, disaffected or have special educational needs (referred by a special needs coordinator).

What do you do all day?

Groupwork, one-to-one mentoring, writing up reports, planning sessions, meeting with heads of years and lots more!

What's the best bit of your job?

Starting off a plan with a young person and working through it to help them achieve their goals.

Are there any downsides?

Not having enough time in the day to work with everybody referred to me. Not being in one school full time.

What are your work history highlights?

Implementing and helping to develop the service from scratch within each of my schools.

What is your dream job?

Something with variety, involving travelling.

What do you like to do in your leisure time?

Shopping, meeting up with friends and family, and going on holiday.

Which modules have you done so far?

The Mentoring Process, Coaching for Learning, Legislation and currently on Day 2 of Study Strategies.

What do you hope to get out of the course?

To be a Recognised Learning Coach.

What have you got out of the course so far?

Meeting new people and sharing ideas relating to work and greater understanding of the role of a learning coach.

How has the course improved your work with young people?

It’s made me think about some young people’s different learning styles and put a bit more variety into the work I do with them.
