In March 2007 we spoke to Alyson Acreman, Learning Coaches Project Manager during the pilot
What are your work history highlights?
I have really only worked for Careers Wales Mid Glamorgan and Powys, but during this time I have held several jobs – Careers Adviser, Senior Careers Adviser (Training Needs), Senior Careers Adviser (TVEI Project), Manager of Taff, Ely and Rhondda, and Careers Teacher/Training Manager.
What do you do all day?
I appear to spend my time answering emails, answering the phone, attending delivery days, attending meetings, planning, and writing reports etc.
What is the best bit of your job?
Meeting and talking to the learning coaches and finding out how colleauges feel about the programme – what’s working and what’s not. Also the module leaders are great colleagues.
Are there any downsides?
Sometimes being the ‘middle man’ can be frustrating.
What is your dream job?
Driving a world rally car – but only on a rally – the testing would be far too boring.
What book are you currently reading?
I have a selection on the go – Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (carried on from Cambodia) and a detective novel – I love a good mystery.
What do you do at the weekend?
Quite often it will be something including car rallying and that will take up an entire weekend. Other than that I love gardening and also socialising within my strong friendship group.
