In May 2007 we spoke to Kevern Kerswell, Learning Coaches Regional Coordinator during the pilot
What are your work history highlights?
Many years ago I delivered 12-week personal development courses for the Prince’s Trust. It was an exhausting role but incredibly rewarding, being a big part of helping people turn their lives around and move into education or employment. Since then I have been a senior learning adviser with the ScottishPower group and took on a training and development role with Careers Wales North East. A more recent highlight is being seconded to the University of Glamorgan and being part of this new programme.
What do you do all day?
This is a new role so inevitably every day is different. I spend time attending module delivery days, liaising with trainers, trawling through emails, linking in with 14–19 networks, problem solving, attending meetings – and where I can drinking tea and coffee!
What is the best bit of your job?
Seeing everything come together! Successful training days and assessment deadlines achieved – not to mention hearing about how learning coaches are using new knowledge and skill to move clients along their Learning Pathway.
Are there any downsides?
Sometimes it’s impossible to keep everyone happy.
What is your dream job?
Central midfield for Liverpool. Very unlikely but given recent form you never know.
What book are you currently reading?
Kipper Stage 2!
What do you do at the weekend?
I’m very lucky to spend most weekends with my wife and gorgeous children, Tom and Isobel. I fill my days playing football, changing nappies and generally having a great time.
